Three routes, and the boxes decide which one you get
Cabinets are the biggest line in most kitchen budgets, and there are three honest ways to deal with them. Painting keeps everything and changes the colour. Refacing keeps the boxes and changes the doors, drawer fronts and the visible frame. Replacement changes everything. The right answer is not a matter of budget first — it is a matter of what condition the boxes are in.
So that is the first thing we check. We open doors, look at the frames under the sink, and press the shelf bottoms. Boxes that are square, dry and solid are worth keeping, and in this housing stock they very often are: 1970s cabinetry was frequently built better than the particleboard that replaced it. Boxes that have swelled from a slow leak are not worth any finish you could put on them, and we will say so at the estimate rather than after you have paid for doors.
Refacing is the option most people have not properly considered. It changes the door style, not just the colour — a slab door instead of raised panel completely changes how a kitchen reads — and it does it without emptying the kitchen for weeks or touching the countertop.
Replacement is the right call when the boxes are gone, or when you want to change the layout: deeper drawers instead of a cabinet you have to kneel into, a pantry where there was none, different heights. That is a thing you can only do from scratch.

Refacing figures reflect South Florida and Palm Beach County pricing; replacement spans stock through semi-custom, and custom runs above the top of that band. Note that federal tariffs introduced in late 2025 are reported to have raised imported cabinet and vanity costs — we have not been able to verify that from a primary source, so we price from live supplier quotes at the time of your estimate rather than from a list. Cabinet painting is priced separately, per door and drawer count.

Before anything else, we need to know what condition the boxes are in — that decides whether you are looking at painting, refacing or replacement, and the three are very far apart in cost. Open a door and look under the sink before you call.

- The door count and the drawer count — that is the pricing unit for painting and refacing
- Whether you want to change the door style, or only the colour

Which route fits your kitchen
Painting
The cheapest of the three and, when the boxes are sound, the highest return in the whole kitchen. It changes colour and finish but not door style. Degrease, sand, adhesion primer and a sprayed finish — done properly it holds up to daily use in Florida humidity. Details on our painting page.
Refacing
New doors, drawer fronts and veneer over the existing frames. This is the one that changes how the kitchen reads without a full remodel, because door style does more visual work than colour does. Your countertop and plumbing stay untouched, so the kitchen stays usable through most of it.
Replacement
Everything out, everything new. Necessary when boxes are water-damaged or out of square, and the only route if you want to change the layout — deeper drawers, a pantry, a different working height. Longest timeline and the biggest line in the budget.
Hardware and drawer systems
Soft-close hinges and full-extension drawer runners are the upgrade people notice every single day and rarely budget for. They can be fitted during a refacing job for a fraction of what they cost as part of a full replacement.
Rethinking the storage
If you are replacing anyway, this is the moment to fix what has annoyed you for years: a corner you cannot reach, a spice cupboard above the fridge, pans stacked three deep. Drawers instead of low cabinets is the single change most people are happiest with afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
- Should I reface or replace?
- It depends on the boxes, not the budget. If the frames are square, dry and solid — which 1970s cabinetry in this corridor often still is — refacing gives you a new-looking kitchen for a fraction of replacement and without emptying the room for weeks. If the boxes have swelled from a leak or you want to change the layout, refacing is money spent on a foundation that is not worth keeping. We look inside the cabinets at the estimate and tell you which one you have.
- Does refacing change the door style or only the colour?
- The style. You get new doors and drawer fronts, so a raised-panel kitchen can become a flat slab kitchen — which changes how the room reads far more than colour alone does. The boxes, the layout and the countertop stay where they are.
- Do you build the cabinets yourselves?
- We design, supply and install. Cabinets are sourced per project rather than built in our own shop, which means we can match the box construction and door style to your budget instead of steering you to one line. Installation, levelling and alignment are ours.
- How long is the kitchen out of use?
- Refacing typically keeps the kitchen usable throughout and takes a few days. A full replacement means the run is out, so plan on the kitchen being unavailable for the installation window — we give you that window in writing before we start and order materials up front so the job does not stall waiting on a delivery.
